About This Experience Gift

  • Ride Along the Skunk Train and See Beautiful Views of Pudding Creek
  • Stop Off to Explore the Redwood Forest and Take in All the Nature
  • Take a Train Ride on Some of the Oldest Tracks in California

Sit back and relax on a 75 minute, seven mile round trip train ride along the picturesque Pudding Creek Estuary. As the train moves along some of the oldest tracks in California, you’ll enjoy a gentle pace of travel, taking in scenic landscapes and local wildlife.

Setting off from the Fort Bragg Depot, you’ll climb aboard the ‘Skunk Train’ (an affectionate nickname from the past which the team will be happy to tell you about). Comfortably equipped with cozy seats, a full bar, and an open air car for the best views, the train is pulled by diesel-electric and steam engines. Along your journey you’ll be able to see wildlife such as blue herons, egrets, and ospreys, as well as spectacular ancient redwood trees. At the halfway point, you’ll pull into Glen Blair Junction for a thirty minute break to stretch your legs. Or, if you fancy a longer break, you can walk one of the redwood trails and catch a later train back.

This 75 minute train ride aboard a classic American engine is a great way to see the landscape, and makes a special experience gift for train lovers of any age.

What To Know Before You Go

The train is handicap accessible, but there are limitations, given that our railcars were built in the very early 1900s. We strive to make every guest feel comfortable and will do our very best to accommodate your visit.

You are only permitted to bring food on board if you have dietary restrictions or are traveling with a child. Concessions are available on the train.

We do not allow outside alcohol on board the train. We have a wonderful selection of wine and beer from beautiful Mendocino County – which by the way is America’s Greenest Wine Growing Region – including our very own Skunk Beer (bottled for us by Anderson Valley Brewing Company), plus a full bar on board the train.

We operate both Diesel-Electric engines and our #45 Baldwin 2-8-2 Mikado Steam Engine, the Super Skunk. These engines pull passenger cars, including a bar car with snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, beer, wine, and spirits, as well as an open air car, perfect for enjoying all this route has to offer.

Boarding begins 15 minutes prior to departure. Guests not checked in 5 minutes prior to departure may have their seats released to standby passengers.
