Old Town Alexandria Food Tour

The food was very good and plentiful for the price, but the tour guide needs to include more explanation about the food selections, or allow the restaurant representatives to do so.

Wow, we had a super time. This tour was a Father's Day gift. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Our guide, Dena, was fantastic! Her knowledge of the area was great. We will definitely do this again.

This past Saturday, we lucked out with the weather and we had a wonderful tour of the Old City with our knowlegeable tour guide, Ted. We learned quite a lot within a few block, about history and architecture and food! The different restaurants were interesting in the diversity of the ethnic food. It was a delicious way to walk through history. My husband's favorite was the Fried brie over Portobello mushroom. Mine was the seared scallops over risotto. We would have prefered a lighter dessert like gelatos but the jelly cake was pretty good. It's a tour we will recommend to our friends. We've heard the capitol tour was great also. We'll keep this one in mind for later this year.
Over all, it was a fun experience with friends.

My only feedback is about our last two stops. The Pita House's serving was quite minimal, which is fine as it's the final part of the tour, but I think it should be substantial in case you have someone who doesn't eat the meals in the beginning of the trip (food allergies, tastes, etc.). The other point was concerning the dessert. Of all the choices in Alexandria - ice cream, crepes, cupcakes - we do jelly cake? I don't know about you, but the group was fairly unanimous that jelly cake is a bit off. We did the Capitol Hill tour about a year ago also and LOVED it!

Very enjoyable afternoon. Guide was friendly, told us a lot of the history and interesting facts about the area, paced the tour well. Food was very good with one exception, Union Street Pub. Crab soup was pasty and not hot, chicken salad on the half-sandwich was discernible only with a magnifying glass. At last stop, I would have preferred a cup of hot tea with the jelly cake instead of the iced herbal tea. Everything else was very good.

We went Sunday January 9, 2011. This was our first food tour. Our guide, Ted, was very knowledgeable on the history of Old Town and pointed out a lot things that enhanced the tour, more than I expected. We enjoyed the quality, quantity and variety of the food. (Before the tour began, Ted asked about any allergies or special food needs that we might have.) The tour seemed well-organized, smooth, and we walk many blocks. We started about 1pm and ended about 4pm. The weather was clear, windy and cold. Ted got us into the restaurants quickly so we weren't in the wind that much. He really helped 'transport us' back to the past, and made a very memorable event. I know so much more about Old Town than I did before the tour. My wife and I recommend the tour, and would go again.

We really enjoyed the tour. We learned a lot about the history of the Old Town area and the food was great. The only downside was having to share some plates of food with strangers at one of our restaurant stops - it was a little awkward and not everyone had a chance to try everything. Overall though we really enjoyed it.

Natalie was our guide and she was delightful - bubbly, very knowledgeable, and respectful of our time. I have lived next to Old Town for years and yet have not ventured over because it seemed to be a difficult town to get in and out and even just park the car. This tour absolutely changed my mind and I can't wait to go back to just browse the wharf, the farmer's market and enjoy the wonderful restaurants to which this experience introduced us. I received this tour as a birthday gift from my husband and I loved it!

This tour was really fun and interesting. Our guide, Molly was very friendly and knowledgeable. The history and architecture was really interesting and the food was very, very good. We visited the Torpedo factory museum and saw many other historic and interesting sites. The pace was very easy and did not seem like we walked all that far. The stops at the restaurants made it even easier. Our tables and food were always ready as soon as we arrived. This was a fun and different activity and we throroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to trying the Capital Hill tour next.
