The Introductory Helicopter Flight has a ground instruction time of approximately 30 minutes and flight time of 30 minutes with total duration of approximately 1½ hours, unless an Extended Flight Option is added.

What To Know Before You Go

Your flight will take place on the Robinson R22, or the R44 if the upgrade option is selected, both of which provide a very smooth ride and have dual controls. The maximum weight of the participant in the R22 may not exceed 200 lbs. The maximum weight of each participant in the R44 may not exceed 280 lbs.

Participant must be at least 12 years of age or older. Individuals who are pregnant, have broken bones or other physical conditions which are considered by the Instructor to be unsafe conditions are not eligible to participate.

Participants are required to show a valid form of ID and they will be required to sign a Liability Release Form.

Great Experience

I gave my husband a helicopter lesson as a gift. It was a total surprise! Had to re-schedule couple times due to low clouds, but third time was a charm. Best Instructor!!

I called beforehand to check on weather and they said it was expecting to clear up. So I drove an hour to get there. Just my luck! Clouds came in right as I was about to get in the helicopter!! These people were amazing though! I had drove an hour to be there, so since I didn't have anything else planned, I waited around for the clouds to go away! They talked to me almost the entire time! They didn't shove me back into lobby and make me mind my own business. I watched them call tons of people, to cancel them for the bout of bad weather. They were amazing! They ONLY get paid WHEN they fly!!! Believe me, they don't like clouds, just as much as you don't!!
I finally got to go on my flight, and it was amazing!! My instructor was great!! He taught me all kinds of things and explained things in technical and non-technical so that I was learning but still understanding. When he let go of the controls I had absolute confidence that he had taught me well and that I could do it. He is always there making just minor adjustments if he needs to, which is comforting! We got to do some hover practice which was way harder and he let me attempt at landing and taking off. Which was incredible!! I did not expect that!! Best Flight experience ever. I kind of wanted my license before this, but now, I really want it!! LOL. Thanks Mike!!!!

Made me want to go and get my Helicopter license. Instructor was great. Helicopters Northwest was an excellent company, def could use a refresh on their building but that did not take away from my experience. Wish I would have had a little more stick time and time using the rudder controls. Overall, it was a great experience that I cannot stop talking about and would absolutely recommend to others.

Full Hour was Great

Choosing the '+passenger' option here lets you request instead to go for a full hour without passenger. I did that so the overhead of warm-up/cooldown was minimal. I'd studied up a little in advance, so the instructor Chris let me take over progressively more of the controls as the flight went on. Felt like a real lesson and not a token 'I got to touch them' thing. I had a great time and am looking at returning to learn more.

The ride was fun but very short. The instructor, Charles, was friendly and informative, made me feel very secure, and taught me to use the basic controls. However, the 30 minute flight time included engine warm up and cool down time, so we really only spent 15 minutes in the air. Hardly an 'experience' of my life.

The flight itself was awesome, however only 20 minutes instead of 30. And the communication between xperience days and the flight company was lacking. I was not even on the schedule, but they were gracious enough to do the flight anyway. My 'pilot' was very knowledgable and friendy. Overall, a pretty good experience- and an amazing view!

Both positive and negative feedback. I had to reschedule my flight twice when I showed up an my pilot / instructor wasn't there (people with their heads on the desk). I called on the third time and my scheduled instructor (again) wasn't there but a person who was on-site was able to take me later that day. Less pre-flight introduction than I expected (2 minutes). The actual flight (hands-on) part of the trip was excellent.

Answer: Participants of the Hands-On Helicopter Flight In Seattle experience must be at least 12 years of age or older. Your 17 year old son would be able to participate. Participants are required to show a valid form of ID, and they will be required to sign a Liability Release Form.

Answer: The weight limit on the Robinson R22 is 200 lbs, however the Robinson R44 has a weight limit of 280 lbs. You will need to choose the flight lesson with guest from the drop down menu in order to secure the Robinson 44. As it is a larger helicopter there is an additional cost, but you will be able to join your husband in the plane!

Answer: Unfortunately no. Once you take off you won't land until your allotted time is up. Only one person will get to be at the controls.
Question: I am very interested in purchasing the Hands On Helicopter Flight package for my husband. He weighs more than 200lbs, so we would need to request the R44. What upgrade option do I need to select?

Answer: Lessons without a guest will take place in the R22 and lessons with a guest will take place in the R44 as they are larger helicopters. Answer: There isn't a specific height restriction, however 6'4" to 6'5" is the recommenced maximum height for participants.
