Learn how to fly a helicopter with thirty minutes of ground instruction and a half hour aerial Discovery Flight Lesson! Departing from the Peachtree-Dekalb Airport in Atlanta, with the help of your instructor you will take over the controls and pilot the helicopter!

You will meet with your Certified Flight Instructor for your ground lesson conducted at the airport. Here, your instructor will explain how a helicopter flies, what each control does, how to read the gauges, what to look for in conducting the pre-flight inspection, and how to make sure the helicopter is safe to fly.

Once ground instruction is complete, you will take off for your First Flight Lesson. During the flight you will have the chance to experience different flight conditions, such as, straight and level flight, climbs, turns, descents and hovering. The Hands-On Helicopter Lesson has a ground instruction time of 30 minutes and flight time of 30 minutes with a total duration of approximately 1 hour.

Does Weather Impact Flying Lessons

The Atlanta's Discovery Flight Lesson may be rescheduled by the Instructor due to high winds, heavy rain, fog or other inclement weather.

What to Wear for Flying Lessons

Dress comfortably, flat rubber-soled shoes and layers are recommended for this adventure.

What To Know Before You Go

Your flight will take place on the Robinson R22 which provides a very smooth ride and has dual controls. All pilots are accident and incident free and the Company has a 100% safety record.

Participation is limited to individuals over 14 years of age weighing less than 225lbs. Individuals who are pregnant, have broken bones or other physical conditions which are considered unsafe conditions are not eligible to participate.

Participants are required to sign a Liability Release Form prior to flight. If the participant is under the age of 18 a parent or guardian will need to sign the form prior to participation.

Can't remember how far back my dreams of flying a helicopter go back but, it all came together today. I had a great pilot, Alister, we were always in control and safe. This guy can fly and has nerves of steel. Did have some panic attacks when I blundered but, Alister was there to make this a safe and fun adventure and when we got cleared by the tower, headed down the runway, climbed and banked right....man what a feeling. Looking out unto the Atlanta area like never before. Honestly, may have been the worst person behind the controls their first time out but, loved it enough to know I have to change that statement. Now, where is the money coming from for lessons? Will certainly use the same pilot.

Questions about Atlanta Heli Lesson

Question: My wife has always wanted to learn to fly a helicopter so I purchased a certificate for her birthday. Will I be allowed to ride along for an extra fee so I can take pictures?

Answer: This lesson takes place in an Robinson R22 helicopter which has only 2 seats and dual controls. As much as I'm sure she'd like you to come with, she's probably going to prefer the other seat be occupied by a licensed instructor!
Question: I want to make sure the Learn To Fly a Helicopter Atlanta experience isn't too far of a drive. Which airport do they take off from?

Answer: The lesson originates from the Peachtree Dekalb Airport.
Question: I would like to surprise my son with this lesson because he has been talking recently of pursuing his license. Will this lesson count towards a Pilot's License?

Answer: Yes, the flight time can be logged and you can discuss more about the requirements to achieve a license with the pilot on the day of the reservation.
Question: Will I actually get to fly the helicopter in the lesson or is it just a demonstration?

Answer: This is a hands on lesson. After you take off you'll be able to take control of the helicopter for the majority of the time.
Question: I received this lesson as a Christmas present but I have never flown anything before. Will that be a problem?

Answer: No experience is necessary for this introductory helicopter flight lesson.
Question: I weigh 230lbs, which is just over the limit. How strict are they?

Answer: The weight limits are set by the manufacturer and FAA for safety reasons. The flight school has a 100% safety record and they are very strict about the weight limits. If the Instructor has any doubt you will be weighed on the day of the lesson.
Question: What happens the weather is poor on the day of my lesson?

Answer: If the weather is not acceptable for an Intro Flight Lesson you will be able to reschedule directly with the Instructor.
Question: I was hoping to buy this as a gift for my husband. I noticed that it says that it does not include additional guests. I was wondering if there was anyway I could pay an additional amount so I could ride along on the helicopter? I wouldn't need to fly the helicopter, but would love to be a part and get to see my husband try this unforgettable experience!!

Answer: The Learn to Fly a Helicopter Atlanta takes place in a Robinson R22 which only accommodates two passengers. Therefore guests are unable to ride along during the flight, but they may accompany the participant to the airport.
