What to Wear for Kayaking Experiences

Dress comfortably, flat, non-marking rubber-soled shoes, layers and swimsuits are recommended for this kayaking adventure.

What To Know Before You Go

Kayak tours launch from State Park Marina, the closest access point to the wildlife and natural peacefulness of the back-bay and estuary. Tours include a professional Guide, kayak, PFD (life jacket), paddle, waterproof fleece lined lap blanket, water and granola bars.

Kayak tours and trips on Morro Bay are designed to accommodate beginners as well as experienced kayakers. There is no minimum age requirement. Children (age 3-8) may sit in the front of a tandem kayak with an adult in the rear. Kids age 10 and up have the option to go in a single, but they must be able to paddle the entire length of the tour. Appropriate PFDs are available for all age levels.

Participants are required to sign a Liability Release Form.

Question: My wife and I received this tour as part of a wedding gift. Will we each have our own kayak or can we go together in a tandem kayak? Which do you think is better?

Answer: Either one has it's advantages. Single kayaks give you a little more freedom, but the tandem gives you twice the paddle power, allows each of you more rest time if you need it, and insures you are together throughout the day. The Morro Bay Kayak tour offers both individual and tandem kayaks so it's up to you.
Question: What is provided on the tour and what do I need to bring?

Answer: The Morro Bay Kayaking Tour will provide kayaks, PFDs (life jackets), paddles, waterproof fleece lined lap blankets, dry bags (on request), snacks and water. You should wear your swimsuit and either water shoes or old sneakers that you don't mind getting wet. We also recommend bringing sunscreen, sunglasses and a camera (but don't forget to put it in a dry bag).
Question: I would like to surprise my girlfriend with this gift. Is it self-guided or will there be a tour guide?

Answer: This tour is fully guided by a professional Guide. Your guide will not only point out the wildlife and habitats in Morro Bay, but will give tips and advice on perfecting your kayaking technique.

The bay is protected from the ocean by a 4 mile long sandspit, which acts as a breaker from the ocean. You should expect to get wet. Breezes on the bay will sometimes spray the boat, and sometimes other paddlers may get you as well. The tour company offers waterproof fleece lined lap blankets, which helps, but you should still expect to get at least a little wet.
