This exciting Hot Air Balloon Ride near Portland, Oregon begins at sunrise, as you meet with your Pilot just 15 minutes South of the City in Aurora. After meeting with your pilot, you will head to the perfect launch location for the day and assist with flight preparation the inflation of the balloon's envelope. Once the balloon is inflated, you and the rest of the passengers will climb into the basket while your pilot continues to heat up the air.

As you float in the balloon, you will travel at wind speed for approximately one hour. You may fly quietly over Lake Oswego or glide gently down Willmette Valley and across the vineyards depending on the direction of the winds. Enjoy breathtaking views only able to be seen from the sky. The most exciting part of this hot air ballooning experience is seeing the Pacific Northwest from a whole new perspective!

The Oregon Hot Air Balloon Flights are offered Thursday through Monday, May thru September, subject to availability. Portland Hot Air Balloon flights take place at Sunrise. Sunrise times will vary upon the time of year the flight is scheduled.

The Portland Balloon Flights have a flight time of approximately 1 hour and a total duration of 3 hours.

Does Weather Impact Hot Air Balloon Rides

The Portland Balloon Ride experiences are dependent on favorable weather, and can only fly when the conditions are safe. Flights may be rescheduled by the Pilot due to high winds, heavy rain, fog or other inclement weather.

What to Wear for Hot Air Balloon Rides

Dress comfortably, flat rubber-soled enclosed shoes and layers are recommended for this open air adventure. Please do not wear nylon jackets or pants.

What To Know Before You Go

Price includes a post-flight champagne continental breakfast. Participation in the Hot Air Balloon is limited to individuals weighing less than 225lbs, between 4' and 6'5" tall and at least 8 years of age.

Participants must be able to stand for a minimum of 90 minutes. Individuals who are pregnant, have broken bones or other physical conditions which are considered unsafe conditions are not eligible to participate.Participants are required to sign a Liability Release Form prior to flight.

Balloons are subject to annual safety checks in line with FAA standards, and all pilots are certified by the FAA.

Question: How does a pilot steer a Hot Air Balloon?

Answer: Balloons are pushed by the wind. Luckily the wind changes directions at different altitudes. By ascending and descending the pilot can essentially change the direction the balloon is traveling. Of course you can't always predict which way the wind will be blowing on any given day so you won't always land in the same place.
Question: We were given a Hot Air Balloon ride in Portland as a wedding present. How cold does it get in the balloon?

Answer: It will actually be about the same temperature as it is on the ground. The air temperature only changes a couple degrees for every thousand feet and that is compensated by the heat from the propane burners. Also, the balloon moves with the wind which means no wind chill. Check the weather before the trip and dress appropriately for the day. It's a good idea to wear a hat to protect your head from the heat of the burner.
Question: If we don't know exactly where we are going to land, how do we get back to our cars?

Answer: The pilot is in constant communication with a ground crew that will follow the balloon. Since the balloon travels with the wind, and won't fly in winds over 10 mph, the farthest you'll travel in an hour is about 10 miles.
