All skill levels are welcome for this Introductory Clay Course. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience working with clay, you'll learn various wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques in order to create beautiful clay vessels. During the art classes, you will learn how to center the clay on the wheel, throw basic forms, trim, pinch and coil. By the end of this seven to eight-week pottery series, you will have a greater understanding of how to form clay into your very own sculptural art.

Boston Pottery Classes are offered on select dates, subject to availability. Classes are held over eight consecutive weeks at the same time each week.

How Long Is The Boston Pottery Workshop

The Intro Ceramics Classes take place once a week for eight consecutive weeks, each class is typically 2½ hours in duration.

Classes take place in all weather conditions.

What To Know Before You Go

Classes include a 25 pound bag of white or red stoneware clay, access to the studio 24 hours a day - seven days a week throughout the session, all glazes and firings, and instruction from professional teachers that hold a Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics.

The maximum number of students per course is 12 students.

Classes are held at The Clay School in the Historic Lydia Pinkham Building.

Participants will need a basic pottery 8 piece tool kit. This can be purchased at the studio for $25.

Questions about Boston Pottery Class

Question: I'm very interested in doing the pottery workshop! If I have to miss a class due to a vacation, will I be able to make it up?

Answer: You may make-up any class you might miss by attending another class being offered during the same week session. Make-up classes however do not carry over into the next 8 week session.
Question: How far is the actual studio from downtown Boston?

Answer: It's about a 30 to 45 minute drive from downtown Boston.
Question: I was given this pottery class by my parents to use this summer. Will I have to purchase materials throughout the course or are they included in the price?

Answer: The price of the class includes a 25lb bag of white stoneware clay. Glazes and firings also included. Additional bags of clay will also be available for purchase at the studio if you run out.
Question: Will I be able to go to the studio and work on my pieces between classes?

Answer: Yes. As long as you are enrolled in the classes you will have access to the studio.
Question: The calendar is blank. When are the dates published for the class?

Answer: The schedule is released 2 weeks to a month before the classes begin. There are typically summer courses and fall/winter courses. If you already have a certificate, and there are no dates listed on the website, you may enter your redemption reference number where you redeem gifts and sign up to be notified when the new schedule is loaded.
