Your journey will take place on the Amethyst, a lively sailor which has won trophies in the Wooden Hull Yacht Clubs' Sailing Regattas. Amethyst is a traditional wooden sailing yacht, 46ft overall, and ketch rigged. She has a beautiful clipper bow and bowsprit, with teak decks running aft. Built in 1969 to the specific designs of the famous naval architect William Garden, she is a stout and safe vessel; USCG equipped and designed to handle the rigors of ocean sailing.

While on board this beautiful 46’ Wooden Sailing Yacht, feel the wind in your hair and breathe in the fresh sea air, sunbathe and relax in the California sun, and explore the local waters and wildlife, including whales, dolphins, seals, and sea lions, in style aboard a truly beautiful boat. How Long Is The Marina Del Rey Sailing Charter

The Marina Del Rey Sail has a sail time of approximately 2 hours and a total duration of approximately 2½ hours, unless an Extended Sail Option is selected.

Does Weather Impact Sailing Experience Gifts

The Sailing Charter of Marina Del Rey may be rescheduled by the Captain due to high winds, heavy rain, fog or other inclement weather.

What to Wear for Sailing Experience Gifts

Dress comfortably, flat, non-marking rubber-soled shoes and layers are recommended for this sailing adventure.

What To Know Before You Go

Sails take place on a 46' Wooden Sailing Yacht. The "Amethyst" is skippered by a USCG-licensed captain and crew. Participation in the Marina Del Rey Sailing Charter Experience is limited to individuals 3 years of age or older. If the Dinner Sail Option is selected, you may select two Appetizers, Main Dishes and Desserts from the menu to enjoy on the sail.

While motion sickness is possible, it is unlikely and can be reduced by avoiding heavy meal(s) prior to the scheduled sail.

All passengers must sign a Liability Release Form.

All changes to reservations for the Marina Del Rey Sailing Charter Experience require seven (7) days advance notice.

Captain Mack did an amazing job treating us to a wonderful evening on his yacht. He was personable, relaxed and easy to talk to. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable from the very beginning. The marina tour was beyond my expectations. He allowed each of us to raise a sail, took our picture and even extended our tour to allow us to see the sun fully set. He took care to make sure we had pillows and blankets so we could stay warm and comfortable. I would definitely recommend him to my friends and family!

We had a great day me and my friend and Dave, the experienced instructor. We had about 18mph winds in the beginning, and then it decreased a bit, but still some nice sailing. Dave did not have to do too much since me and my friend know how to sail ok, but he helped us trim and where to go. Overall it was just a very pleasant and fun experience, from 'check in' to 'check out'. We were also invited to a nice barbeque after!

I surprised my husband with this gift for our 5th anniversary. The evening started out lovely. The captain was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, weather conditions sabotaged our travels and romantic evening. Our 'Loveboat' cruise nearly turned into a roller coaster ride. But my husband and I have absolutely no regrets! It was a blast. We do, however, recommend an earlier time to avoid evening winds.

Wonderful experience but worth the price?

The boat is amazing. The captain is entertaining and attentive. The food was delicious. The views were gorgeous. (I only wish it were sunny so we could have enjoyed a sunset- but that is no fault of Experience!) It was all around a great time but I am not sure I would pay close to $600 to do it again. I think $400 would be a more fair price.

Questions about Marina Del Rey Sailing

Question: I was just wondering whether we could do this sailing activity as a whole family with small kids as well ?

Answer: Yes you can do that, however it would depend on the age of the children. This chartered sailing experience is only suitable for Children aged 3 and older.
Question: Are we allowed to bring a cooler or picnic basket on the Marina Del Rey Sailing Charter?

Answer: Sure, you can bring your own or they can arrange to have food available for you for an extra cost. If you'd like them to arrange a picnic for you be sure to contact them directly at least a few days in advance of your sail. All of the contact information for the sail will be provided once you've made your reservation.
Question: Are we allowed to bring our own alcohol on the ship?

Answer: Yes, you may bring your own. Everyone who is drinking must be 21 and overindulgence will not be tolerated.
Question: Is a restroom available on the Marina Del Rey Sailing Charter?

Answer: Yes, and while on the ship you should refer to it as "the head".
Question: What should I wear on the sail?

Answer: You may dress casually and layers are recommended. Wear comfortable tennis or walking shoes. Dress shoes and heels are not permitted. You'll also want to remember to be prepared for the sun, which can be amplified out on the water. So remember sunblock, sunscreen and a hat.
