It is amazing how proper instruction can accelerate your learning curve and take away some of the frustration most beginner surfers face. This semi-private surf lesson in San Diego will have you surfing in no time!

You and other participants will begin with a half hour instruction on Mission Beach learning the basics techniques and stretches before you hit the water. Once ready, you will head into the water and learn more about safety and ocean awareness including lateral currents and rip tides, paddling and positioning on the board as well as basic wave reading and knowledge. Your lesson concludes with learning to stand on the board and ride the waves. You will have plenty of time to practice the techniques and catch some waves!

After your surf lesson, you will have one hour of free equipment rental so you can continue practicing all your new moves! This is perfect for someone who wants to learn how to surf in a group setting!

The Surf Lessons in San Diego is offered seven days a week May thru October, subject to availability. Lessons are offered between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

How Long Is The San Diego Surf Lesson

The San Diego Surf Session has a beach instruction time of 30 minutes, an in-water instruction time of 60 minutes and a total duration of approximately 2 hours.

Does Weather Impact Surf Lesson Experiences

The San Diego Semi-Private Surf Lesson may be rescheduled by the Instructor due to high winds, heavy rain, fog or other inclement weather.

What to Wear for Surf Lesson Experiences

Please wear your swimsuit or trunks beneath your clothing and apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes prior to your lesson. A towel, sunglasses, hat and change of clothing are also recommended for this surf lesson.

What To Know Before You Go

Wetsuits, rash-guards and surfboards are all provided for the lesson and can be for an additional hour following the lesson. If you have your own surfboard or other equipment, you are welcome to use it.

Participants must be over the age of 5, must be able to swim with their head above water and must be able to swim to shore. Younger participants and weak swimmers will be kept in shallow waters. Participants are advised to be well rested and should avoid drinking alcohol the evening prior to their lesson. All Instructors are experienced surfers and have been surfing for over 10 years. They are all certified in CPR and First Aid, and some are also ocean lifeguards. Instructors are with the students at all times.

Participants are required to sign a Liability Release Form. If the participant is under the age of 18 a parent or guardian will need to sign the form prior to participation.

Surf Lessons San Diego

Our experience was awesome. It was my 45th Birthday and the surfing lessons we had from Pacific Surf couldn't have been better. Rob our instructor was great. As a note what made it even better was Adam Cole who was the on site Photographer. He took about 100 shots of us and because of him it will be a day we can always look back and remember. I will suggest your company to my friends and family for sure. Thanks!

Questions about Surf Lesson In San Diego

Question: How many other people will there be in the class?

Answer: The class have 2 to 3 per instructor. You can choose to make this a private lesson for an additional price.
Question: My brother gave me his old surfboard when he bought a new one as motivation for me to learn. Should I bring that to learn on since that's the board I'll be using after the class?

Answer: You're welcome to bring your own equipment, however the boards they provide are larger soft top boards that are easier to learn on.
Question: What is the minimum age to take a lesson? I would like to give this to my granddaughter.

Answer: Surfing is for all ages!! But the minimum age to take the class is 5.
Question: I am interested in giving this lesson as a gift, but I am not sure how well my nephew can swim. Do you need to have good swimming skills for the lesson?

Answer: Everyone who takes the lesson must know how to swim before they head out into the waves. Swimmers that aren't as strong will be kept in shallower water with smaller waves.
Question: I would like to give this experience to my daughter as she wants to learn how to surf. Will she be able to use the board after the lesson?

Answer: The price of the lesson includes your surfboard rental. The rental lasts up to an hour after the lesson so you can stay out and practice what you learned.
