Enjoy the beautiful sea cliffs and La Jolla Ecological Reserve filled with marine life as you Kayak in the calm cold ocean waters protected by the crescent shape of La Jolla Cove. You may catch glimpses of harbor seals, sea lions and orange garibaldi swimming nearby the cove. Then, kayak to the amazing kelp forest and Ecological Reserve. Paddle through this underwater kelp forest, home to an array of marine life, including seals, sea lions and the occasional dolphins.

The La Jolla Kayak Tour for Two is is offered seven days a week, year-round, subject to availability. Tours take place between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

The Sea Caves Kayak Tour has a paddle time of approximately 2 hours and a total experience time of approximately 2½ hours.

Does Weather Impact Kayaking Experiences

The Sea Caves Kayak Tour of La Jolla may be rescheduled by the Guide due to high winds, heavy rain, fog or other inclement weather.

What to Wear for Kayaking Experiences

Dress comfortably in a bathing suit or light, quick-drying clothing, sandals and sunglasses. A hat with a visor is also recommended. The water is cold so feel free to bring a wet suit or jacket. Please also bring an extra towel with a change of clothes.

What To Know Before You Go

La Jolla Kayak Tours take place in a tandem Kayak built for two participants. If additional participants are added the additional participants will be placed in single kayaks, unless tandem kayaks are requested.

Wetsuits and lockers are available to rent for an additional cost on the day of your tour.

San Diego Kayak tours are designed to accommodate beginners as well as experienced kayakers. There is no minimum age requirement on the day tours, individuals must be 6 years of age or older to participate in the Sunset tour. Individuals under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Appropriate PFDs are available for all age levels. All equipment is included and instruction is provided.

Participants are required to sign a Liability Release Form.

A fun experience with good information provided by our guide. I was hoping to see more of the caves (we only entered ONE cave for less than two minutes that was a little disappointing). I understand the surf/tide/weather is a factor but it was still a bit disappointing to only see one cave. But the area was beautiful and the kayaks were easy to use.

Ocean Kayaking

We were unable to visit the Sea Caves because of rough ocean near the shore. Wetsuits were recommended, as was locker rental. All this should be explained in the info (we had a gift certificate) so left wallets, etc in the car, which was parked several blocks away. The Tour should be re-named 'Ocean Kayaking' if this happens often. Our guide David was delightful and knowledgable. We did see dolphins...It was certainly enjoyable, just not as advertised.

This was a great first time kayaking experience. We ended up having the best day of the summer for it - per our guide. It can be pretty windy, which might be a challenge for new kayakers, but was really calm on our day - could see about 20 ft down in the water. Saw leopard sharks, and these cool 'giant goldfish', cormorants, brown pelicans and sea lions. Our guide was very entertaining. The only challenge was finding the store - there are many Kayak tour places and this one is not called 'La Jolla Sea Caves'. Luckily we had the address and found it by that.

Question: My husband and I were given a La Jolla Sea Caves Tour Certificate for Christmas. Can we get our own kayaks?

Answer: This activity is for 2 people in one tandem kayak. Single kayaks are available for an additional cost. If participants are added onto the certificate, the extra participants will receive single kayaks, unless tandem kayaks are requested.
Question: Does the tour company provide wetsuits?

Answer: Wetsuits and lockers are available for rent on the day of your reservation.
Question: We received the La Jolla Sea Caves Kayak Tour For Two as a gift. Can I send my teenagers on the tour by themselves?

Answer: Participants 16 years and older do not need to be accompanied by an adult, but an adult will need to sign their liability waiver before they go on the tour. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a an adult.
