Within a swift 20 minutes of departing from the San Diego Maritime Museum Port, you will sail approximately 9 miles off of the San Diego coastline into the Pacific Ocean. This is where your San Diego Whale Watching adventure begins. Breathe in the fresh sea air as your experienced Captain and Crew get you as close as possible to the California Gray Whales.

You and the other passengers on board will have the opportunity to see the Gray Whales all around you as they swim along the San Diego shoreline on their annual migration to the warmer waters of Mexico. This is one of the most exciting and educational experiences in San Diego.

The San Diego Schooner Whale Tour is offered up to five days a week, Mid-December through September, subject to availability. Trips board at 10:30 AM depart at 11:00 AM and return at 3:00 PM.

The San Diego Whale and Schooner Sail typically has a trip length of 4 hours and a total duration of approximately 4½ hours.

Does Weather Impact Whale Watching Experiences

The Schooner Whale Tour of San Diego may be resheduled by the Captain due to high winds, heavy rain, fog or other inclement weather.

What to Wear for Whale Watching Experiences

Dress comfortably, flat, non-marking rubber-soled shoes and layers are recommended for this open water adventure.

What To Know Before You Go

This experience includes a memorable, narrated sail aboard a historic, luxurious 138' sailing yacht during the peak of the whale migration. All Sails include complimentary soda, water, ice and some light snacks. Guests may bring along their own alcohol, and it is recommended that they bring their picnic for lunch on board the ship.

2017 had 100% success rate of whale sightings. No Sea Sickness Guarantee! The America is a very stable yacht, and if you lose your lunch, will receive a $25 gift card.

Admission before or after the sail to the famous San Diego Maritime Museum is included.

Price includes all taxes, however gratuity is not included and can be extended to your Captain and crew following your adventure.

This was our second trip with this company and both were high quality. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive to the participants' needs. The trips include power and sailing components, and were successful in seeing whales. This last trip we saw 14 gray whales. The weather was glorius. Would highly recommend.
