The fun begins in Livermore or Felton, CA where you’ll meet the Beekeeper at Gerard’Z Honeybees. With over 100 years of history, they will pass on four generations of beekeeping fun facts and information throughout a two-hour beekeeping demonstration. You will observe how honey is produced, learning the steps at each stage of the process. From the importance of nectar to pollination of flowers, wild bee colonies and beehives, this Introduction to Beekeeping provides you with a sweet overview.

Once the demonstration is complete, you will enjoy an hour long honey and wine tasting to further enhance your newly gained knowledge. So whether you are looking for fun things to do in the Bay Area or for a unique gift, this Honey Tasting is the ticket!

The Beekeeping Workshops are offered on select Saturdays and Sundays year-round, subject to availability. Classes are typically scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM or 1:30 PM.

How Long Is The Honey Tasting Beekeeping Workshop

The Bay Area Beekeeper Classes include a 2 hour demonstration, a one hour honey and wine tasting and have a total duration of approximately 3¼ hours.

Does Weather Impact Wine Tasting Experiences

The Beekeeping Honey and Wine Tasting Classes take place in all weather, but may be rescheduled by the Beekeeper due to sever weather conditions.

What to Wear for Wine Tasting Experiences

Dress comfortably in long sleeves and pants. Flat rubber-soled shoes are recommended for this culinary adventure. Please do not wear open-toed shoes.

What To Know Before You Go

Classes take place at Gerard'Z Honeybees who provides local raw natural honey and specialty monofloral honey to Bay Area and Central Valley consumers. Individuals who are pregnant or have other physical conditions and or allergies which are considered unsafe are not eligible to participate.

Questions about Bay Area Honey & Wine

Question: My brother gave this unique gift to my wife and I. Do people in attendance get stung often?

Answer: No, but it happens. Individuals who are pregnant or have allergies are not permitted to attend the class.
Question: What kind of honey will we get to sample?

Answer: Gerard'Z Honeybees offers Wildflower, Orange Blossom, Blackberry, Buckwheat, Alfalfa and Star Thistle. All of their varieties are raw and unprocessed.
Question: I would like to purchase this gift as a afters day gift. My dad has always had an interest for bees! Will he be required to wear a beekeeping mask?

Answer: No. Most of the class is demonstration with the class sitting a few feet back. There may be a few chances to volunteer to be hands-on, in which case you will be given a beekeeping mask.
Question: I received this wonderful gift from my daughter and her husband. Will there be a chance to purchase Honey after the tour?

Answer: Yes, the class takes place at one of their Honey Outlets.
