Gift Ideas For The Undecided
Indecisive people, and people who don’t really know what they like, and those people who have a brand new passion every two months can all be quite difficult to buy for. Some people know what they want, and they are more than happy to tell you what that is, which makes your job as a gift giver wonderfully easy.
But there are the folks who have no idea what they want, can’t decide what their hobby is, and can barely decide on what socks to put on in the morning, let alone what they’d love to have for their birthday. So how do you navigate those situations where you’re trying to decide on the perfect gift for a person who has no idea what their perfect gift is? We have a few tips to help you out!
Remember that they don’t need to be decisive in these situations – you do. You’re the one buying the gift after all! Their indecision might make things a little trickier for you, but essentially, the decision making is up to you here, so bear that in mind and try not to get bogged down in their indecision!
Don’t spend too much money on what may be a whim. If they are the sort of person who buys a saxophone in January and then decides they want to learn to play the harp in March, it is likely that they will continue to flit from whim to whim. This is fine and there’s nothing wrong with it, but if you are buying them a gift, avoid spending too much on what may be a whim. Otherwise, you might feel a little upset when the wonderful new skis you bought them are left gathering dust once they’ve moved on to the next thing!
A great gift for an indecisive person is one that reflects that indecision – a ‘care package’ made up of lots of little things that have been well thought out is a gorgeous thing to receive, and a really fun gift to prepare and buy. It’s like a totally personalised hamper, made up of lots of lovely little things – toiletries, clothing, a voucher for a bungee jump, a nice mug… just stuff that they will love, that covers a broad spectrum.
Food is always good. Even indecisive people need to eat! Of course, if you get them a gift certificate for dinner, they’ll have the agony of choosing their meal to face, but it’s out of your hands by then…
If you know them enough, and you’re confident it will be received well, go ahead and make a decision for them. Some indecisive people like it, and if you know them well enough to know that they’re that sort, then knock yourself out (but don’t blame us if it goes wrong)!
